For over 3 centuries until the Imamate revolution in Yemen, antique silver in Yemen was largely based off of Maria Theresa thaler coins which at one point were used as the official currency of Yemen due to their high silver content of .8333 for that time period. A majority of Yemenite high quality silver pieces were made by melting down Maria Theresa coins and reworked into silver pieces of jewelry that we come to know of them today.
