Antique Yemenite Bridal Head Ornaments made into into Earrings. Such basket formation of the head pieces are extremely rare and considered a museum finding. They date to the late 19th to early 20th century. Traditionally they would be attached to a full ornamented head piece for brides in Yemen. As these specific parts have particularly sorted for they where collected by jewelers made to earrings and in that way qualifying them as a high status items. The basket pieces are made in refined Filigree and granulation work The Jewelry is adorned with various stones, mostly orange or red but as in this case one of the base little stones has a transparent purplish hue. Total weight : 25.7gr ( 0.91oz). Size : approx 6cm X 3.7 cm (approx 2 3/8" x 1 1/2").

Antique Yemenite Bridal Head Ornaments transformed into Earrings.
This basket formation of the head pieces are extremely rare and considered a museum finding.
They date to the late 19th to early 20th century.
Traditionally they would be attached to a full ornamented head piece for brides in Yemen.
As these specific parts have an individual quality they where collected by jewelers and collectors and transformed to personal jewelry ,mostly earrings and in that way elevating their Value and qualifying them as a high status items.
The Jewelry is adorned with various little stones, mostly orange or red but as in this case one of the base little stones has a transparent purplish hue.
From the type of screw back of this pair it can be assumed that the making/transforming of them into earrings was quite early, possibly mid century.
The basket pieces are made in refined Filigree and granulation work. Such Jewelry is typically done in med Silver 800-850 .
In smaller quantities and narrower target market they where Gilded as in this case.
The earrings have a vibrant presence and charm and simply can not be left unnoticed once put on.
Their appearance is unique for being both of flamboyant quality and yet keeping a balanced symmetry with intriguing details and jewelry making techniques.
